Helping Hedgehogs Drop In

Join us at Secret World Wildlife Rescue this half term for a fun, hands-on hedgehog-themed drop-in session!

Hedgehogs are one of Britain’s best-loved garden visitors, but they face many challenges in the modern landscape. Come along to Secret World Wildlife Rescue this October and discover more about these fascinating little mammals and how we can all help them.
Our Hedgehog Day is a fun, family-friendly drop-in event with plenty to see, make and investigate. All ages are welcome, with lots of hands-on activities for young wildlife enthusiasts.
You can drop in at any time between 10am and 2pm and take part in as many activities as you like.
What can you do?
🦔 Build a Hedgehog House
Learn how to build a hedgehog house that provides a safe, sheltered space for hedgehogs in your garden.
You can build a house during the event and leave it with us for free, or choose to pay an additional cost to take your finished hedgehog house home with you.
We will also have hedgehog house kits available to purchase, as well as pre-made hedgehog houses if you would prefer to take one home ready to use.
🎨 Get creative with hedgehog crafts
There will be plenty of opportunities to get creative, with all craft activities free to take part in.
You could:
- Make a prickly hedgehog from a conker.
- Turn an old book into a hedgehog.
- Use leaves to create your own hedgehog artwork.
- Take part in other hedgehog-themed craft activities throughout the session.

Hedgehogs arriving at a wildlife hospital can need specialist care, particularly when they are very young.
Take a closer look at some of the equipment we use to care for tiny hoglets while they are in our hospital and learn more about what is involved in looking after them.

☕ Enjoy a drink and a slice of cake
Our bar will be open throughout the event, with hot and cold drinks available to purchase. You might even be tempted by a slice of cake while you explore the activities!

Whether you are a budding wildlife expert, a keen crafter, a hedgehog fan or simply looking for something fun to do during the school holidays, there will be something for you.
Come along, get creative, learn more about hedgehogs and discover some of the simple things we can all do to give these much-loved garden visitors a helping hand.

All craft and activity sessions are free. Additional charges apply if you choose to take a hedgehog house home or purchase a hedgehog house kit or pre-made house.
Refreshments will be available to purchase throughout the drop-in session.
Important information
Secret World Wildlife Rescue is a working wildlife hospital. For the welfare of the animals in our care, there is no contact with rescued animals during this event.
Instead, visitors can learn about our work through footage, demonstrations, equipment and educational activities.
