Wild Academy: Back to Nature

August 20 @ 10:00 am August 22 @ 3:00 pm

This fully funded three day workshop is a great opportunity for young people to connect with nature, learn about conservation and explore the Somerset countryside.

Through these educational workshops SWWR aims to develop an appreciation and understanding of UK wildlife and develop a
passion in young people to get out into nature and conserve it.

This particular programme will run for 3 days with limited spaces and the young people MUST be able to attend all three sessions. These sessions are suitable for those aged 10-14years only, every attendee will receive a ‘Wild Academy’ certificate at the end.

We expect the sessions to look something like this:

Day 1 (Nature)
– Arrival and introduction to SWWR
– Activities likely to include: bird watching; pond dipping; minibeast hunt; moth
trapping; small mammal study

Day 2 (Countryside)
– Moth trapping 2.0 (seeing results from previous day)
– Small mammal study 2.0 (as above)
– Countryside walk

Day 3 (Conservation)
– Making bug hotels
– Planting conservation focussed produce
– Tour of SWWR (no interaction with wild animals, but young people will be able to enjoy
interactive displays and see a small selection of resident animals)

You’ll be joining George, our Head of Education and Public Relations who developed a passion for wildlife and nature after a couple of visits to our centre when he was younger. He’s now delivering our education programme and passing on his knowledge to the next generation.

These workshops are supported with a donation from a private fund, administered by Somerset Community Foundation.
