Wild Academy: Back to Nature
August 19, 2025 @ 10:00 am – August 21, 2025 @ 3:00 pm
This three-day workshop is a great opportunity for young people to connect with nature, learn about conservation and explore the Somerset countryside.
We expect the sessions to look something like this:
Day 1 (Nature)
– Arrival and introduction to SWWR
– Activities likely to include: pond dipping; minibeast hunt; moth
trapping
Day 2 (Countryside)
– Moth trapping 2.0 (seeing results from previous day)
– Countryside walk
– Small mammal set up
Day 3 (Conservation)
– Small mammal study
– Bird house/bug hotel building
– Tour of SWWR (no interaction with wild animals, but young people will be able to enjoy
interactive displays and see state of the art facilities)
You’ll be joining George, our Head of Education and Public Relations who developed a passion for wildlife and nature after a couple of visits to our centre when he was younger. He’s now delivering our education programme and passing on his knowledge to the next generation.
“The pace of the course was just right, the breaks were perfect (time wise), the content was fun and there was no time for boredom. George was amazing, he was patient, very helpful, knowledgeable about British wildlife and he was really kind.” Review from attendee in 2024
Please note that Secret World is a working wildlife hospital and registered veterinary practice, as such there will be no contact with any of the animals in our care during your visit. This is to ensure the safety of visitors and maintain the highest level of welfare for our patients.
We are pleased to be able to offer a discounted rate for this course thanks to funding provided by Viridor’s We Share Community Fund.
