Morning Moth Trapping (August)
August 14, 2027 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am
Join us at Secret World Wildlife Rescue for a fascinating morning discovering the incredible world of British moths. Often overlooked in favour of their more colourful daytime relatives, moths are an important part of our ecosystems and there is far more to them than meets the eye!

Our Morning Moth Trapping events offer the chance to see which moths have been visiting the Secret World site overnight and learn more about these often misunderstood insects.
Did you know…
🦋 There are over 2,500 species of moth recorded in Great Britain
🦋 Moths are important pollinators and provide food for many other species, including birds and bats
🦋 Some moths can travel surprisingly long distances, while others spend their entire lives within a small area
Your morning will begin in our Bluebell Barn, where you can meet the team, enjoy a complimentary hot drink, and settle in for a short introduction to moths and moth trapping.
We will then head outside to check our moth traps, which will have been set up around the Secret World site the previous evening. Together, we will carefully discover what has been attracted to the traps overnight and learn how to identify some of the different species we find.
From tiny micro-moths to spectacular hawk moths, you never quite know what might be waiting to be discovered!

The moths we record will contribute to our understanding of the wildlife found around Secret World. Following the event, our team will identify and upload our records to a national moth recording database, helping to build a picture of moth populations and distribution across the UK.
Whether you are already fascinated by moths or have never really stopped to look at one before, this is a great opportunity to get closer to the smaller creatures that play such an important role in our natural world.
